UTC South Durham has welcomed its new cohort of Year 12 T Level Engineering students, marking the start of an exciting two-year journey that blends technical learning with practical industry experience.
The new students have already begun exploring the world of engineering through a series of engaging activities. A recent visit to Tees Cottage Pumping Station gave them the chance to see the history of engineering in action and discover how innovation has evolved over time.
To help them prepare for their upcoming placements, students also took part in a placement preparation session led by Sasha Warr BA (Hons) MCIPD, Founder and Director of Out Source HR. Sasha shared expert advice on what employers look for – covering interview skills, professional conduct and how to make a strong first impression.
Looking ahead, the Year 12’s can expect to gain the same valuable experience as current Year 13 student Harvey, who is completing his T Level placement at 3M. Harvey has been rotating across production, engineering and quality departments, gaining hands-on experience in how a global company operates and how teams collaborate to deliver innovation every day. UTC South Durham continues to seek partnerships with local and national businesses to provide industry placements for its T Level students. These partnerships are key to helping young people develop the practical skills and professional mindset they’ll need for successful careers in engineering and technology.
