Dear Sir,
Someone once said, “Be careful what you wish for.” Nowhere is this more evident than after a General Election. That’s why I firmly believe that, at the local government level, voting for the person, not just the party, is crucial.
This is not to say that party values don’t matter, they do. They reflect our principles and beliefs. My core values are shaped by my background, including my military service. I believe in strong law and order, individual freedom balanced with personal responsibility, aspiration and ensuring a high-quality education for all. I value tradition and champion free enterprise to support businesses and industry. That’s who I am.
However, as a County Councillor, I believe the true measure of my service is not just in my values, but in my actions. Those who have reached out to me for help – whether with broken bins, overhanging trees, unsafe pathways, or community concerns – can judge me by the results I have delivered. But local success isn’t just about individual cases. I encourage everyone to look at the broader improvements we’ve achieved at the County level: reduced antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping, new leisure centres and much-needed school developments.
These successes aren’t just my own, they are the result of a dedicated team of like-minded Councillors who, as part of a Joint Administration, work tirelessly to deliver real results for our residents. Because, at the end
of the day, it’s not just about politics, it’s about making Newton Aycliffe and our County a better place for all.
Cllr Tony Stubbs,
Aycliffe North and Middridge.
