The recent third round of the Danny Hart Descend Bike Park Winter Downhill Mountain Bike (MTB) race series had Newton Aycliffe based Primex European Division as it’s headline sponsor. The bike park which is based at Hamsterley Forest, twenty minutes from the Primex factory, is run by two times World Champion, Danny Hart’s family and is very popular with MTB riders from all over the North East and, at present, has an increasing number of youth riders attending each weekend.
After morning free practice, the full entry of 120 competitors commenced the first of two timing runs of the steep 1 minute 30+ second track consisting of numerous jumps, rocky shoots and root strewn berms. Each competitor was allowed two runs with their fastest time counting towards their overall position. It was great to see a good turnout of youth riders, some as young as 10, taking on the same demanding course as the adults.
Local Adult Elite rider, Adam Biggins, from Birtley, posted the fastest time of the day ahead of Scottish Youth rider (15-16 years) Monty Palmer. Top Female rider was local Bird Cycle works factory rider Hollie Vayro. Primex European Division Manufacturing Manager Gary Clement presented the trophies to the deserving winners.
