Healthier Community
As our team’s affiliate and get ready for the start of their pre-season games, the football club is always looking at new initiatives, to get our community healthier and fitter, alongside our football activities. The club has started an FA Just Play 18+ group for Women. Complete beginners welcome, returning players welcome, no pressure, no commitment, just fun, fitness, friends and football. The sessions are led by a qualified coach very Sunday morning, outside on the Oakleaf pitches, 10am ‘til 11am. If you’re looking for a place where effort is recognised, improvement is celebrated and everyone supports each other, come and join us. To register, contact Club Secretary Berni 07939 045242.
Kenya Update
Our sister club in Mombasa, Kenya, goes from strength to strength, with the support from our football club. The Newtonians are competing in leagues and regular tournaments for boys and girls, across all age groups. The oldest U18 group of boys have now qualified for the regional premier league with 22 teams in the league. It will be a great challenge for these talented young men as they open up, against Barawa FC, a well backed and funded team from the centre of Mombasa. The lads will run out in a strip donated by Doncaster Rovers, thanks to the help of Luke Molyneux, a player for the team from Newton Aycliffe. The club remains committed to supporting all the boys who want to play football, but wouldn’t have had the opportunity, but for the dedication of head coach Ahmed and the rest of his volunteers. As well as supporting the football, the money raised by the club has also helped fund school books, pens and pencils for the local village school, where most classes have up to 90 pupils and books etc are so difficult to get, with limited money that the school has.
