Around Town, Aycliffe Radio – Sunday 7th September
Our thanks to Hayley, Sam and Perry from Little SENDsations for joining us in the studio to bring us up to date with two very important and exciting developments.
Little Boxes, Big Stories: Bringing Stories to Life in Hospitals
Little SENDsations is proud to introduce Little Boxes, Big Stories – a project designed to bring comfort, creativity, and connection to SEND children in hospitals. Each ‘story box’ is filled with props, PECS cards, storyboards, and even story massage resources, turning story time into an interactive and inclusive experience.
We have worked closely with Sensory Support teams, a teacher of the hearing-impaired, and story massage practitioners to ensure the boxes are fully accessible and meet the needs of all children, regardless of ability. Our goal is simple, to make hospital stays a little brighter by helping stories come alive for every child. Would your business like to sponsor a box? Or would you like to learn more about how you can support this project? Contact us at wsclittlesendsations@gmail.com – together we can share the magic of storytelling.
SENDurham: Bridging the Gap to SENDsational Support
A brand-new outreach programme, SENDurham, has launched to support families of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across County Durham.
SENDurham brings trusted professionals together under one umbrella, making it easier for families to access advice, guidance and practical support, without the stress of navigating multiple services. By working collaboratively with experts, SENDurham ensures that families get the best support possible in one welcoming, community-based space. The project, created by the charity Little SENDsations and SEND Friendly North-East, is about breaking down barriers and making support simple, accessible, and free from jargon or judgment.

We also welcomed Rachel from Conductive Education (CE) into the studio on this week’s show. Rachel works with both adults and children with complex educational needs. She popped into the studio to talk to us a little bit about the work she does, and see what the show is all about in preparation for when she returns as my guest in November on my new show Health, Healing and other Weird Stuff.
