Fornax Permit & Local Monitoring
Almost two years after Fornax submitted its permit application to the Environment Agency, a decision is expected in the coming months.
Meanwhile, plans are progressing for independent air-quality and soil monitoring. Soil samples will be taken at selected locations across Newton Aycliffe, West Green and Heighington, with Chestnuts also being considered.
West Green has been recommended as a key location.
Initial samples will provide a baseline for comparison with future testing once the incinerator is operational. Results will be made publicly available, and I intend to attend the sampling.
Scams – Protecting Residents
Following a recent scam involving an older resident, police attended our Monday Drop-In to provide advice on recognising and avoiding scams.
The session was very well received.
The Drop-In runs every Monday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Everyone is welcome for the full session or simply a cuppa – men included!
Lifeline & Telecare
The council’s Lifeline service provides valuable reassurance for people living independently. A pendant, worn on the wrist or around the neck, connects users to support 24/7 without needing a phone, broadband or landline.
Response Officers install and test the system, and I strongly recommend this service for anyone who could benefit from that extra peace of mind.
Speeding
Reports of dangerous speeding are increasing. While details such as vehicle colour, speed and location are useful, the vehicle registration number is essential if police are to take action.
