I am conscious of 2014 being the centenary of the First World War and whilst I cannot honour any of the servicemen who fought in this war for obvious reasons my mind has turned to looking at ways to recognise the duty and service of those few elderly people who served in the 1939 – 45 campaign
So to all readers, do you know of anyone who lives in the Heighington and Coniscliffe Ward who either served in the armed forces or the Aycliffe Angels during World War 2. If so please send me their contact details as I am organising an Afternoon Tea in Redworth Hall Hotel on April 16th to honour those people who gave up much of their youth to protect this great nation of ours.
I am delighted to confirm that the Queen’s representative, the Lord Lieutenant, Sue Snowden has kindly agreed to attend and she will be presenting a certificate to the ex servicemen and ladies.
I also extend an invitation to you all and I hope that  you will make the time to join us in our own prestigious Redworth Hall Hotel to show your appreciation to a generation that sacrificed so much in terms of loss, devastation, and hardship all of those years ago.
Cost for the afternoon tea will be free to our Second World War guests and £12.50 per person to our paying invitees. Contact me  to provide details of anyone you know who has served and also to purchase tickets for this auspicious and pleasant occasion.
Thank you,
Cllr Gerald G. Lee
