Aycliffe Street Food Market & South West Durham Heritage Festival Bounce Back After Storm Amy Cancellation

After Storm Amy forced a weather-related postponement, the South West Durham Heritage Festival is back on track and it’s bringing the community together in style on Friday 17th October in Aycliffe Town Centre.

Running from 3pm to 8pm, the rescheduled event promises an evening of heritage, food and family fun, as it joins forces with the rescheduled final Aycliffe Street Food Market of the year.

Visitors can step back in time with roaming historical characters, get hands-on in the heritage dig-pit, and even share their own memories to help capture a living record of Aycliffe today.

And while history takes centre stage, the much-loved street food traders will be serving up everything from bubble tea and loaded fries to cupcakes and scotch eggs.

Organisers say they’re thrilled the event could be safely rescheduled after the storm disrupted plans across the region. Stephen McGrother, event’s producer at Baccanalia, said “Storm Amy may have delayed us, but it hasn’t dampened our enthusiasm. We’re ready to make the final Street Food Market of the year a real celebration of local heritage, great food and community togetherness.”

With free entry and family-friendly activities, and a flavour-packed market, the event is expected to draw visitors from across South West Durham, shining a light on Aycliffe’s unique mix of heritage and community spirit.

Baccanalia extends its thanks to Great Aycliffe Town Council and Aycliffe Town Centre for making these events possible.
