Richmond Mavericks 2 v
Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors 10
A trip to Richmond, who are second in our league, in another cup game and the seventh game of the season for this talented team.
The game was very scrappy in the early stages of the game and the game needed a goal from the lads to let them play their football. Aycliffe finally got it when Jack Mortimer broke the dead lock. Niall Douglas set him away and he calmly slotted the opener. The boys were now playing well and they quickly added a second when Jack was brought down in the box, he stepped up and lashed home. It was then Jack’s turn to be the provider. Squaring for Steven Dawson to score on his debut, Steven then added his second of the game, the lads were now dominating the game and, just before the break, Reed sent Jack away for his hat trick. HT 0-5.
Richmond started the second half and looked more of a threat, but Cameron Jamie Martin and Jude Bowes were solid at the back. Aycliffe then went close to adding to their lead but a couple of tight offside decisions and missed chances kept it at 5. The lads finally added their sixth when Joseph Fawcett squared for Reed Molloy to finish.
A great run from full back Jon Hardy was finished by Mason Steed.
The lads were well on top and great link up play by Kieran Maughan set Jack away for our 8th, then Jack added our 9th and 10th to finish the game with a superb double hat trick. However, with the game well won and the lads ready for the final whistle, somehow Richmond added two conciliation goals. Our first season in senior adult football and the results are played 7, won 7, scored an impressive 40 goals. MOM: Jack Mortimer.
