The highly successful community organisation ACORN will be holding their 13th March meeting at 6pm in the Royal British Legion Club.
The main meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the junior group Little ACORNS at 5.30pm who will be discussing the Basketball game last Sunday where they cheered on Durham Wildcats as guests of the popular team at the Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.
Also to be discussed will be plans for the upcoming Petting Zoo to be held at the Leisure Centre in April and promises to eclipse last year’s fantastic event.
Little ACORNS are inviting local animal charities and businesses to showcase their services and products at the event with stands and products.
Special guest speaker for March will be Katy Milne from Greenfield Arts Centre who will be promoting some exciting ideas for volunteers this year. Previously Katy has successfully produced “Stepping Out”, which enthralled crowds last summer in our lovely West Park with musical and magical entertainment.
Another of Katy’s successful projects was Greenfield’s “helping hands” project which utilised men’s spare time to build a feature built in front of the School.
With a packed schedule of events and trips to plan throughout the year ACORN are expecting to be kept busy the whole year. Latest news and announcements of plans for events will be featured at the meeting along with progress of outings and spin off groups such as “Save Our Fireworks Display”.
ACORN are constantly looking for new speakers and partners to entertain and engage our members in the community so if you have a service to promote please come along or get in touch.
ACORN meetings are regularly attended by Town and County Councillors who are happy to answer queries in private if required. Police also attend meetings to discuss neighbourhood problems and give advice.
