A North East council has praised students for their hard work, as school leavers find out their GCSE results today.
Durham County Council is congratulating students who are receiving their GCSE, BTEC and Level 2 qualifications.
In County Durham, 62.1% of children achieved the pass grade of four and above in English and maths. This represents a continued improvement over the last three years.
Cllr Cathy Hunt, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for children and young people’s services, said: “We are immensely proud of everyone who has received their results today.
“This is a significant time for our young people, who have left the familiarity of school and are about to step into the next stage of their lives – whether that is continuing to study, or taking up an apprenticeship or employment to learn valuable skills.
“There will be a mix of emotions today, but it is important to remember how hard our young people have worked. Whatever the result may be, there are lots of opportunities across County Durham and our school leavers have bright futures ahead of them.”
