Thousands of people enjoyed great food in the sun this weekend prompting organisers to hail Seaham Food Festival as a huge success.
The free Durham County Council event took place on Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August and saw crowds flock to the coast to enjoy food, fun and entertainment.
With nearly 140 traders at the festival, there was no shortage of great cuisine for people to enjoy – from tasty macaroni and cheese to sweet treats. Meanwhile, people stayed hydrated on the warm days with healthy, tasty smoothies.
Cllr Karen Allison, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, tourism, regeneration and high street, said: “It has been another fantastic year for Seaham Food Festival. We saw such a great turnout, with families and friends, and their four-legged companions enjoying the festivities.
“The cookery demonstrations by Matt Tebbutt, Cherish Finden and the other celebrity chefs cooked up a storm, leaving crowds smiling and, in some cases, dancing. The incredible food from all the traders went down a treat.
“Seeing so many people supporting local businesses, both at the event and elsewhere in Seaham, was wonderful.”
On Saturday, festivalgoers saw chef and author, Cyrus Todiwala; Channel 4’s Bake Off: The Professional’s formidable judge, Cheris Finden; and BBC MasterChef winner, Shelina Permalloo. On Sunday, audiences enjoyed the excellent TV chef Matt Tebbutt, Italian influencer, Francesco Mattana; and chocolatier, Oliver Dunnn, known as Oli The Choc. Meanwhile, Chris Bavin brought the whole weekend together with his seasoned presenting skills.
The festival wasn’t just about celebrating food; it was a perfect opportunity for crowds to enjoy some incredible entertainment. Live music from Andi Sandwith and The Lake Poets wowed audiences and hands-on workshops were enjoyed by families across the weekend. Whatever they chose, visitors went home with full stomachs and smiles on their faces.
