Janette (née Williams) and Kenny Davies are celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary this month, marking a lifetime of love rooted in Newton Aycliffe.
Janette was born in Newton Aycliffe in 1957, while Kenny hails from Darlington. The pair first crossed paths through work at Kitsons Insulation in Darlington – Janette, then a 17-year-old junior in the office, and Kenny, a 26-year-old driver.
After marrying, Kenny moved to Aycliffe in 1975, and the town has been home ever since. Over the years, Kenny went on to work as a carer until an accident at a care home in Barnard Castle led to early retirement. Janette recently hung up her boots too, retiring from Livin Housing after 18 years of service.
Their interests keep them happily busy: Kenny is an avid gardener, while Janette has traced the family tree and even uncovered long-lost relatives.
Family is at the heart of their lives. They share two Sons, Dean and Christopher; Daughters-in-Law Rachael and Ruth; Grandchildren Imogen, Maya and Charlie; Janette’s Sister, Yvonne and Brother-in-Law Davy Boy; and many Nephews, extended family and friends.
Janette also fondly remembers her Brother Dave, who sadly passed away and her Sister-in-Law, Carole.
To mark their anniversary, the couple enjoyed a family meal at Redworth Hall Hotel on the Saturday 13th December.
As for the secret to a long and happy marriage, Janette offered one simple word ‘tolerance’, before laughing and adding that many years of loving and caring for each other have carried them through.
