Children from Aycliffe Village Primary and Nursery School enjoyed a special visit from our local Member of Parliament, Alan Strickland, as part of their World Book Day celebrations.
The pupils welcomed Mr Strickland into school to share their enthusiasm for reading and to learn more about his role as an MP. Members of the School Council and Eco Council prepared a range of thoughtful questions, giving them the opportunity to find out what it is like to represent a community in Parliament and how democracy works in the UK.
Following the visit, pupils were thrilled to receive personally addressed letters of thanks from Mr Strickland, recognising their excellent questions and warm welcome. The letters were a proud moment for the children, who were excited to hear back from their MP.
The school councillors are now looking forward to continuing their work to help improve their school and local community, inspired by what they learned about democracy and leadership during the visit.
