A cancer diagnosis is devastating – not just for the patient, but for family, friends and colleagues. We aim to provide help and support where it’s needed, but we cannot do that without our volunteers who play a vital role in our Charity.
We are desperate for volunteer patient transport drivers to take Cancer Patients to hospital for Life Saving Treatment. We take our patients to the majority of hospitals in the North East, however we are flexible if drivers prefer not to go as far as Newcastle. Local journeys are just as important to help with.
Can you spare one or two days to help cancer patients get to hospital. Many simply don’t have anyone to ask or their loved ones may be at work. Having any kind of cancer treatment puts the patient at risk of catching infections if going on public transport which can be detrimental to their health.
If you enjoy driving, meeting new people and would like to help your local community we need you to join our friendly team. Our volunteer drivers provide a friendly face and listening ear by putting them at ease during a very stressful time. Mileage expenses are paid to our drivers each month to help towards the cost of petrol.
To become a volunteer you will need to:
• Hold a valid, full UK driving licence
• Aged 25 or over
• Have access to a car (minimum 4 door)
• Have fully comprehensive insurance
• Undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS)
paid by the Charity
• Be a good listener
