Newton Aycliffe based Junior Pro-kart racer Scarlet Whitaker Dunn made further progress in round 5 of the Teesside Sprint Series held at Teesside Autodrome on Sunday 22nd May.
Scarlet had a tremendous start to her weekend, finishing well in her three race heats and, in doing so, smashed her personal best lap time by six tenths of a second. This meant she would start from eighth on the grid for the event final.
On the first lap of the final, a group of karts collided causing a fellow competitor and his twin engine kart (165kg) to ride over another kart and to be then launched around a metre in the air hitting Scarlet and her kart narrowly avoiding a serious blow to her head.
Scarlet unfortunately took damage to her kart and hand and, despite her valour, she had to pit the kart and retire.
Scarlet’s mother, Amanda, said “Scarlet showed fantastic pace this weekend not only beating her personal best lap time by a good margin, but frequently putting in the 4th fastest lap time in the heats.”
“I was looking forward to a good final following the successful heats prior and was disappointed that I couldn’t finish the race, but I am hopeful and looking forward to future races,” said Scarlet.
We would like to thank Amaron Racing, PHM (Peninsula Historic Motorsport), Carbon Arc Training and Consultancy, Grandad Ron and Rob Storey for their generous assistance and financial support making this possible.
