A busy few weeks for Rotary Newton Aycliffe with, firstly, an invitation from Simon Day to hold our meeting at Junction 7. This was the ideal opportunity for President Margaret Ord to present Simon and Wife Jane with a Paul Harris Fellow. A PHF is the highest award given by Rotary and, in this instance, is to recognise the huge impact which Simon and Jane have on the welfare of the community and the unfailing support available to anyone walking through the door of the charity.
A massive thank you to both of you, Simon and Jane, for all you do.
Then we moved on to the Town Centre Hub where three of our members, Stewart Wilson, Margaret Fenwick and President Margaret, met with Andy Boyd, who is the Community Safety and Engagement Coordinator working for Lifeline Community Action. Andy readily agreed to place one of our used spectacles collection bins in the hub. Why not pop in, have a cuppa and find out why we need your unwanted specs and what happens to them after you donate?
We also have collection bins in Specsavers, McGuinness Opticians and Sainsbury at Cobblers Hall.
Next, and a warm welcome for President Margaret and Rotarian Sue Dobson, who visited Woodham Burn Primary School and the work their after-school club pupils are doing in creating a garden, both for wildlife and growing fruit and vegetables. More of that with photos next time.
