Scarlet Whitaker Dunn, the Newton Aycliffe based Junior Pro-kart racer, competed in rounds 5 & 6 of the Teesside Sprint Series, held at Teesside Autodrome over the weekend of 25th/26th July.
Scarlet was competing in the ultra competitive Junior Pro-Kart class, which saw an impressive grid of 24 entrants.
Scarlet got off to a great start in her first race on Saturday, where she managed to convert her (drawn start position) P23 start position into an impressive P11 overall finish and an important second place in the fifteen entrant ‘club’ class.
Her good form continued all weekend, resulting in class ‘podium finishes’ and awards from P12 and P10 finishes in the two finals.
She drove superbly all weekend and managed to stay out of trouble in what were some very hard fought and eventful races.
Her achievements were particularly noteworthy as she was competing against some of the very best young Kart racers in the country, many of whom have already won championships at other UK circuits.
Scarlet’s maturity is apparent in everything she does, including her choice to retire from Kart racing for the moment to concentrate on her year 11 studies at Woodham Academy. Despite taking a break, we are sure that this won’t be the last we see of Scarlet in motorsport.
“While I am very sad that I won’t be karting in the near future, I have loved it over the years and will always cherish the memories it has brought and the life skills it has given me,” said Scarlet.
