Darlington residents can now sign up online for this year’s garden waste collections.

Garden waste collections are carried out fortnightly, and this year they will run from mid-March until the end of November for an annual fee of £48.

Those who have used the service previously will receive an email or letter letting them know they can renew online and there is a separate online form for those who wish to sign up for the first time.

The first collections will be during the fortnight beginning Monday 16th March , so to ensure you can take advantage of all the scheduled collections, please renew or sign up before Friday 27th February.

Almost 10,600 households signed up for the service last year and more than 2,840 tonnes of garden waste was collected. This was recycled and used for agricultural fertilizer and soil production.

Libby McCollom, cabinet member for local services, said: “It’s good to see that our garden waste collection service continues to be so popular, with the number of households signing up increasing each year.

“This means we’re also able to recycle more garden waste too, which is great news. I would encourage everyone to sign up for this year’s collection in good time to ensure they can take full advantage of the service.”
