On Sunday 10th May 2026, Eric Stapleton, Michael Fitzgerald and Michael Brown will take on the Etape Caledonia – an 85-mile closed-road cycling event set against the stunning, yet demanding, backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. Known for both its beauty and its difficulty, the route offers an unforgettable challenge for even the most experienced riders.
Participants must complete the course within eight hours, pushing themselves over long distances and steep terrain, including two significant climbs: Trinafour (374m) and Schiehallion (382m). Widely regarded as one of the toughest sportives in the UK, the event is a true test of strength, stamina, resilience and determination.
The trio is undertaking this challenge to raise funds for Quinn’s Retreat, a Shildon-based charity that provides free respite breaks for individuals and families bereaved by suicide. Through its peaceful caravan retreat, the charity offers a safe, comforting environment where people can rest, reflect, and begin to recover during some of the most difficult times in their lives. The support it provides has a lasting and meaningful impact on the mental wellbeing of those who need it most.
Any support, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way in helping this important cause continue its vital work.
