Great Aycliffe Town Council launched their Community Recognition Award Scheme to recognise and acknowledge the dedication, commitment and outstanding contribution that nominated individuals make to improve and promote the Parish of Great Aycliffe.
Our most recent recipient is Brenda Millington who was nominated by Linda Watts for her fantastic work at the Welcome Café at St. Clare’s Church, Newton Aycliffe.
Brenda has been there from the very beginning, helping to set up the café to support so many members of our community, including the elderly, those living alone and some with mental health problems.
Serving healthy, freshly cooked dinners to more than sixty people each week and supporting the many volunteers with their training needs, Brenda has been recognised for her significant contribution toward improving the welfare and wellbeing of residents of the Parish and for the improvement of services and facilities in Great Aycliffe.
The Mayor, Councillor Ken Robson, presented Brenda with a medal and certificate at the Council offices and congratulated her, saying, “It is the greatest of pleasures to be able to present a community medal to a person who has done so much for residents of our parish. Our Great Aycliffe residents owe much to local heroes like Brenda Millington, who selflessly give their time to help others.”
