County Durham residents are being reminded to check their voter registration information or risk losing their right to vote in future elections.
As part of Durham County Council’s annual canvass, final reminder forms are being issued to all households which have yet to confirm their details.
Forms were initially sent to all properties at the end of July asking people to check that the information the council holds for them is accurate. This has since been followed up with door-to-door enquiries and delivery of a second reminder form where necessary.
The authority is now issuing a final reminder for residents to ensure they are eligible to vote in upcoming elections.
Steven Templeton, Durham County Council’s electoral services manager, said: “It’s important that all our residents can have their say in future elections, but they must be registered to vote to do that.
“We’d ask everyone who receives a final reminder to follow the instructions on the form they receive. Anyone whose details are incorrect will not be registered to vote so we’d encourage everyone to let us know of any changes that are needed and make sure we hold the correct information.”
Anyone who has recently moved or whose details are not included on the form, can register to vote online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. They can also contact Durham County Council’s electoral services team on 03000 261 212 or email electoralservices@durham.gov.uk
