Newton Aycliffe Women 5 v 1 CLS Amazines

A few changes were made to the team, Captain Katie dropped back into centre midfield alongside Rio, Holly made her first start for the team at right back and Tilly was given a start up front. From the kick off Aycliffe were on the front foot, pressing the opposition into mistakes, a few hopeful balls played over the defence nearly paid off with both Aycliffe’s strikers coming close. A quick reminder from the coaching staff about bringing into the game what we’ve been working on in training and being patient and picking the right pass. This seemed to do the trick. Amber picked up the ball in the middle and played a ball in behind the defence for Tilly to run onto, one on one with the keeper Tilly slotted the ball home 1-0. Aycliffe didn’t have to wait long for the second, Lottie piked up a loose ball on the left and played a ball to Naomi’s feet on the edge of the box. Naomi still had it all to do, beat 2 players and from a tight angle beat the keeper at her near post 2-0. No more goals in the second half but Aycliffe looked in full control.

Second half, and the women were straight at it, a great move started in defence, set Amber away down the right wing, a great right footed cross found Shannon free in the middle to head home her first goal for the team and Aycliffe’s third 3-0. Two minutes later a mistake in the middle by the opposition was punished, Shannon controlled it well and picked out Tilly who finished from inside the box for her second of the game to 4-0. A penalty to the opposition, from what appeared to be a harmless coming together, resulted in the score being taken to 4-1. The game looked like it was going to finish there but Aycliffe forced a corner, Amber floated a ball into the box, Rio controlled well and played the ball to Shannon who lashed the ball past the keeper for her second and Aycliffe’s fifth. Final score 5-1.

Shildon v NAYFC U11 Eagles

Team: Kian, Liam, Olly, Finn, Zac, Harvey, Will, Kai, Adam, Harry, Hamza and Kaiden.

The quarter final of the cup and it saw the lads playing against a side who haven’t lost a game all season and who have scored many goals. The first half started evenly with both sides having chances. As the Eagles attacked Adam was fouled just outside the box and we were awarded a free kick. Will stepped up and struck the ball beautifully finding the top corner. Excellent free kick taking the Eagles ahead. The half continued to be a battle with Shildon attacking well, however the score was controlled at HT. In the second half our boys seemed to come alive, however for the first 10 minutes it was still end to end and could have gone either way. The boys in defence; Liam, Olly, Zac and Finn, were outstanding today and the sheer effort and determination from these players was shining through. Kian made some fantastic saves and stopped anything getting past, it was incredible to watch and we are so proud of these lads as this is just as important as scoring goals at the other end. Our second goal came when Harvey ran down the line and buried it into the goal. We were now dominating with the boys in midfield; Adam, Will, Harvey and Kai, all playing some great football. Will took a throw in and the distance on his throw was unreal, Adam managed to get to the ball and toe poked it past the keeper. The forwards; Kaiden, Hamza and Harry, continued to find great space and apply loads of pressure. Kaiden, who had dropped into midfield to help the lads out, used his skills to dribble past the Shildon defence and took a wonderful shot that beat the keeper. We were again awarded a free kick near the corner flag. Liam stepped up and took this brilliantly, Harry leapt high into the air and headed the ball straight into the goal. Eagles kept possession until the final whistle after an outstanding team performance. Semi final here we come! MOM went to Olly who played his role very well; ensuring he was behind the ball, attacking with the team but getting back to help his defenders out whilst making crucial tackles time and time again.

NAYFC U13 Girls lost to Boldon in a great match showing the team’s excellent progression this season.

NAYFC U12 Hawks took a narrow loss to Seaton but showed great composure and strength.

Lots of matches to come this weekend, as Youthy show their stuff within the Boys and Girls Leagues.
