Year 8 Greenfield Community College students had a rare opportunity to spend a night at Newcastle’s Great North Museum: Hancock recently. Seven students, chosen from over 400 applicants from across the North East, spent the night in the museum in sleeping bags on the floor amongst the natural history collections and took part in activities at Newcastle University.
The event was designed to give students a taster of university life and was a great opportunity for our Greenfield students.
This is just one of many further education opportunities organised by staff at Greenfield, inspiring students to look at possibilities for Post 16 progression.
Students arrived back at school full of excitement, if not a little tired after their adventure. One student said “It was so amazing you can’t describe it in one word, it makes me really want to go to University now. The best bit was handling bugs because we learnt new things.” Others in the group commented on how the trip gave them a new positive perspective on going to university and how they couldn’t wait to go for real.
At Greenfield we set out to raise aspirations amongst all our students, this creative and somewhat different approach to experiencing Post 18 opportunities has certainly inspired this group of students and raised their awareness of exciting routes for the future.
