Scarlet Whitaker Dunn, the Newton Aycliffe based Junior Pro-kart racer, competed in Round 4 of the Teesside Sprint Series held at Teesside Autodrome on Sunday 20th June.
Scarlet was competing in the ultra competitive Junior Pro-kart class, which saw an impressive grid of 26 entrants.
The racing was incredibly close (and the weather was just as hot) as we all enjoyed what was the hottest day of the year, so far.
Scarlet got off to a great start in Heat 1 where she managed to convert her (drawn start position) P22 start position into an impressive P12 finish.
Heat 2 was a similar affair with Scarlet again finishing P12.
The third heat was rather chaotic, after a huge pile up at the first corner, where half of the field went spinning off in every direction.
Despite Scarlet getting turned around in the melee, she didn’t lose out as badly as some of her fellow competitors did. A few corners after, Scarlet and a few other competitors had a coming together, but Scarlet managed to rejoin without damage. She soon got going again and battled her way through the now mixed up order. Sadly, she only managed to salvage a P18 finish after being hit a further time by a fellow competitor on the South Bank turn.
The final race of the day went well and Scarlet soon found her rhythm. Her lap times (although just shy of her PB) were very quick and consistent, resulting in her finishing in a creditable P12 in a quality field.
