As part of our new career awareness, Miss Wren, our Careers Lead, organised visits to Hitachi and Husqvarna.
Class 14 visited Hitachi on Tuesday 7th October. It was fascinating to see the size of the factory, we had a tour of the entire site, walked through a brand new first class train carriage and sat in the driver’s seat. We also saw the replica Locomotion No.1 close up which was an amazing experience. One interesting fact that we found out was the factory has five miles of train tracks on site.
Class 13 visited Husqvarna on Wednesday 8th October and we were given a tour of the whole of the factory floor, we learnt about the history of Husqvarna and were able to ask questions to some of the employees who showed us around. The children were particularly interested in the robots in the Moulding Plant and everyone had a go at controlling a mini robot on the factory floor. The children asked questions such as: Did you know you were going to be doing this job when you were our age? Did school prepare you for your careers?
Employees from both factories commented on the impeccable behaviour of our Year 6 children and said that they would invite primary schools into their organisations in the future because of this. We hope that these visits have inspired some future engineers and technicians.
