Durham County Council has launched a new consultation, working with Sport England, to find out what prevents people from being active and how its services could be delivered in a way that helps people move more. A recent Sport England: Active Lives survey showed that, in County Durham, three in ten adults do less than 30 minutes of physical activity a week.
The survey is designed to discover people’s current activity levels; their physical activity aspirations; their thoughts on indoor leisure provision; where and how easy it is to be active outdoors; and participation in active travel and what would encourage people to do more.
With only five in 10 children in the county meeting the minimum activity guidelines of being active for at least 150 minutes a week, the survey also asks those with caring responsibilities for children and young people for their views on how young people can be encouraged to move more. The results will be used to help shape physical activity offers both within the council’s leisure centres and in local communities. The focus will be on how to reduce barriers and support those wanting to return to, or start, their active journey.
Residents have until Wednesday 30th July to complete the survey, which can be done online at www.letstalkcountydurham.co.uk
For those interested in doing more physical activity but not sure how to get started, the council’s leisure team offers support. People can visit their nearest centre to speak to a member of the team, or visit:
