Around Town – Sunday 14th September
Veterans at Ease is a north east England based charity dedicated to supporting military veterans, serving personnel and their families who are struggling with mental health issues such as PTSD, anxiety, depression and trauma.
The charity was founded by Garreth Murrell, a British Army veteran who suffered from severe PTSD after returning from active service in Bosnia. Like many veterans, Garreth initially didn’t realise he was unwell and struggled for years with flashbacks, anger, nightmares and suicidal thoughts. Traditional treatments didn’t help, but NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) therapy transformed his life.
Determined to help others avoid the years of suffering he endured, Garreth retrained as a therapist and founded Veterans at Ease in 2010 to provide free, life-changing therapy to veterans and their families.
History & Growth Founded in 2010 in the north east. Started with one therapist (Garreth) and a mission to offer non-judgemental support to veterans. Has grown into a team of trained therapists – most of whom are veterans themselves. Veterans treating veterans, offers services through therapy rooms in Sunderland, Gateshead and Kings Lynn and outreach in other areas when needed.
Veterans at Ease specialises in: NLP-based therapy, a talking therapy focused on rewiring thought patterns and behaviours without re-traumatising the individual. Confidential one-to-one sessions, available face-to-face or remotely. Support tailored to the individual – there is no one-size-fits-all.
Therapists, who are veterans themselves, create an environment of trust, relatability and no stigma. Therapy is free of charge, funded through grants and public donations.
