New One-Year Trial Bus Service Connects Sedgefield, Chilton and Newton Aycliffe
A new one-year trial bus service is being introduced by Durham County Council this September, providing a much-needed public transport link between Sedgefield, Chilton and Newton Aycliffe.
The new service will operate Monday to Friday, running from the morning through to the early afternoon, offering residents a convenient way to travel between the three communities for shopping, appointments, errands and other everyday activities.
The route will provide a direct connection between Sedgefield and Newton Aycliffe via Chilton, helping to improve access to local services and facilities for residents who may not have access to a car.
Importantly, the service will also provide access to major supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s in Sedgefield and Tesco in Newton Aycliffe. This will make it easier for residents to reach these shopping destinations without having to rely on lifts from family or friends or alternative, more complicated public transport journeys.
The one-year trial will provide an opportunity to assess how well the service meets the needs of local communities and how regularly it is used. Residents are encouraged to make use of the new service and support the route during the trial period.
The introduction of the service is a positive step towards improving connectivity between Sedgefield, Chilton and Newton Aycliffe, giving local people greater choice and independence when travelling for shopping and other essential activities.
Further information, including the full timetable, stops and fares, will be available from Durham County Council and local travel information services.
