A Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year to you all.
On behalf of over 750 local children, I extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who generously contributed to the 2024 Silent Santa Appeal. This initiative beautifully exemplifies the true spirit of Christmas – giving freely without expecting anything in return. The generosity of individuals and organisations, such as Greenfield Academy and Dot from Whitehouse Funeral Services, brought immense joy to many children during this special time of year. Thank you to all who participated.
This spirit of generosity is also evident in the efforts of various individuals and organisations, including Parish Councils, the WI, Homemakers, Scout Groups, and many others, who work tirelessly to foster a sense of community in our villages and towns across the country. We owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who volunteers in these organisations.
Over the years, some individuals have gone above and beyond the call of duty. In Heighington, for example, Jane Riddiough, who runs our local Spar shop, provides exceptional service to her customers, always going the extra mile. Her efforts are greatly appreciated throughout the village.
Colin Teare, a Parish Councillor and Company Director, dedicates his limited free time to volunteer work throughout the Parish, saving money that would otherwise be spent on contractors. Many will recognise Colin as the person who braves the cold to put up the Christmas lights on our beautiful tree, just one of the many tasks he undertakes throughout the year.
Judith King, who took over from Peter Smyth in organising our monthly litter pick, ensures that volunteers show up regardless of the weather to clean up litter left by careless and unthinking individuals.
To Jane, Colin, Judith, and all the other volunteers, wherever you may live, who tirelessly strive to make our lives better.
Thank you.
Councillor Gerald Lee
Heighington & Coniscliffe Ward.
