Fishburn v Heighington FC U11
A waterlogged pitch at Fishburn meant Saturday’s away fixture moved to Heighington and it was another absorbing game of positives with some exciting football from the Heighington boys. Fishburn showed improvement since the reverse fixture last month and battled hard from the start with great team spirit. But, once Connor ended the deadlock with a sublime long-range strike, Heighington took control. Team captain Connor came away with two goals as well as an assist from a dangerous cross that forced a Fishburn own goal. Christopher, Riley, Tommy, Jacob and Levi also got on the scoresheet as the whole team succeeded in playing some good passing football. Fishburn scored a late penalty, converting the rebound after Jake T saved the initial shot. MOTM went to Liam who has grown in confidence each game this season. Starting out in defence, he showed good strength, skill and awareness to turn defence into attack and was a threat when pushed into a more advanced position.
Heighington FC U12 8 v
Crook Hornets U12 3
After heavy rain, the match went ahead on a heavy pitch, Crook started well and were a very strong unit who made it difficult for our lads. Their efforts were rewarded with an early penalty which was executed well and this saw Heighington’s heads drop, resulting in a second goal for Crook before half time. The boys talked well among themselves and encouraged each other at the interval and came out a much better team. Soon they had one back through Will Farrow then a penalty taken well by Jonah Harrop made it 2-2, but a lack of closing down allowed Crook to get a long shot in to make it 2-3. Credit to our lads as they kept their heads and started to dominate with some great passing and closing down which saw a goal from Lucas Faulkner to make it 3-3 then two from Bruno Clack, one with a fabulous flick to lob the keeper, and two from Mathis Gordon, who had another strong performance. All this was finished off with a goal from Jack Collingwood. A great result for the lads.
MOTM: Will Farrow, another strong midfield performance. MOTM: Jack Collingwood, fantastic second half performance and a big threat down that left wing.
Many thanks as always to Chris Harper and the SASH Hardware gang for all the support.
