Come rain or come shine, Bishop Auckland Jazz gave us another wonderful lunchtime performance and, despite the heavy downpour, a smaller audience than usual enjoyed a real treat.
In a beautifully relaxed session, headed by Alan Law on piano, we were entertained with I Wish I Knew in a Latin style, before playing two of his original tunes Bluish and Tyneside Blues, the latter with an outstanding bass solo from Mick Shoulder. Never Ever, You and the Night and the Music, Autumn Leaves, It Could Happen to You and Bye Bye Blackbird completed the set.
I was really struck by some incredibly sensitive drumming from John Bradford throughout the set and some lovely informative introductions from Alan before each tune.
The next session features pianist, the Dean Stockdale Trio on Friday 12th June 1.00pm at Bishop Auckland Methodist Church. These piano trio sessions are really welcome and hats off to #bishopaucklandjazz for putting on these events. Let’s make Bishop Auckland great again.
