Great Aycliffe Town Council is preparing for this year’s annual Fireworks Display, which takes place on Wednesday 5th November.
We are making some safety changes to this year’s event in order to comply with new government legislation, known as Martyn’s Law, which enhances security against terrorism-related risks in public areas and events.
Due to several anti-social behaviour incidents at last year’s event, involving people bringing fireworks on site and entering the fireworks launch site, we are taking some additional measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for the whole family.
1. West Cemetery will be closed to the public on the evening of the
event;
2. There will be a bag check at the site entrance;
3. Additional security staff will be patrolling the site and surrounding
areas;
4. The event will start half an hour earlier – with the beacon lighting at
6.30pm, and the fireworks display at 6.45pm.
