Community Spirit, Newton Aycliffe, is so excited for the year ahead, which has been made much easier, thanks to the players of People’s Postcode Lottery who have given us £10,000.
We have already started buying more wheelchairs for our free, short term loan, wheelchair scheme, which has proven very popular within the town. We have completed quite a few Basic Life Support classes, free of charge, and the money means we are able to cover the extra costs such as the Lungs, Face Masks and Certificates.
Our monthly Family Discos are up and running again for the 2025 season – Valentine’s Disco, on 14th February, was a huge success and a total sell out – long may they continue.
Our Princess and Superhero Disco is next on Friday 21st March from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at only 50p per person, tickets available from Julies Pets, The Vape Shop and Café HQ – a great big ‘Thank You’ to these shops for supporting us.
We are so excited for Easter as we will be holding a ‘double’ Disco on Good Friday, 18th April from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and 5.30pm to 7.30pm, followed by an Easter Eggstravaganza event in Aycliffe Town Centre with Aycliffe Radio on Saturday 19th April from 12noon to 3.00pm, where residents can see our lovely rabbits, Snowy and Cookie, alongside our friends from Five Acres.
We have an amazing Easter Raffle, with top prizes including a 55” TV, £100 cash prize and other prizes, which we will be purchasing from our local town shops as we intend to Shop Local!
We are hoping to restart our Keep Aycliffe Tidy, Flowers and Sow Your Seeds campaign shortly, keep an eye out on our website:
www.communityspiritnewtonaycliffe.co.uk
or our Facebook site.
We were so pleased to hear our ‘Letters to Heaven’ post boxes, placed in both town cemeteries, kindly run by Great Aycliffe Town Council, proved popular over the Christmas period, and we will shortly be donating our roses, used at the Valentine Disco to replenish the vases we have placed in Stephenson Way Cemetery, a tradition of ours for the last three years to supply flowers to empty unattended graves. A big thank you to Palram, Shake ‘n’ Cake, Husqvarna, Newton News and The Big Club who continue to support us.
Finally, we want to have plenty of activities to keep our town busy and have something to look forward to, so, we are planning a HUGE party on St. Paddy’s Sunday, 16th March at The Big Club (adults only), 1.00pm until 6.00pm – Disco, Karaoke, Singer ‘Blake Daniels’, Duo ‘DV8’ and the amazing party band ‘DYNAMIX’, with a ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and loads of free goodies and prizes, as well as drinks promotions. Only £3.00 entry, come along and support us, we want an excuse to party like it’s New Year’s Day (the footy will be on in the Sheraton Bar for those who want to watch it).
