Free circus festival returns to Spennymoor

The circus is coming to town this weekend with a host of free entertainment and activities for families.

Durham County Council is once again hosting a family fun vibrancy event in Spennymoor town centre, this Saturday 23 May.

Funded by the All Together for Spennymoor Pride in Place Board, residents can enjoy street entertainment, walkabout acts, daring acrobats, and even take part in a series of circus workshops themselves.

The activity-packed day will be held in the marketplace from 11am to 4pm and promises to be a day of free family fun, hosted by Let’s Circus.

Ready to sweep audiences off their feet is acrobat and juggler Felicity Footloose. Armed with only a ladder, a few props and the best of the eighties, visitors will get the chance to see Felicity perform her signature move. Hanging by her feet and juggling razor sharp knives, she is the only performer in the world to perform this anti-gravity stunt.

Also performing will be Australian act Balloonatic. This unique act inside a giant balloon has won hearts and funny bones all over the world. Expect pure visual comedy that, once seen, is never forgotten.

In between the demonstrations, visitors can enjoy the antics of Felix Brent the English Gent, a walkabout penny-farthing act.

Circus workshops will also run in between performances, at which audiences can try out their juggling skills.

There will also be free activities including face painting, mini golf and a climbing wall.

Timings of the event will be:

  • 11am – Introduction
  • 11.30am – Felicity Footloose Street Show
  • 12.15pm – Circus Cabaret with Nat Lunatrics- with hula hoop act by Freya Averley
