This week was the 15th anniversary of the opening of Greenfield Arts, a centre of arts and creativity, in Newton Aycliffe.
To celebrate this milestone, and the fantastic work of the centre, participants, young people, volunteers, partners, funders, and those who have worked with Greenfield Arts over the past 15 years were invited to a Birthday Party on Tuesday.
The event, which was funded by GAMP AAP and Greenfield Arts, saw young people from Greenfield work in their own time with director Ruth Johnson to develop the event, with performances and activities for party goers.
Each activity and performance highlighted an activity or project from Greenfield Arts’ past, celebrating the variety that the organisation has developed, managed and delivered for the local community.
The guests made cards with messages for Greenfield Arts which included: “Keep doing what you’re doing – its inspirational!” “Wow, an amazing place providing fantastic opportunities for young people and the whole community.” “We love it here – Happy Birthday!”
The event will be turned into a short film by Capture films and shared via Greenfield Arts’ vimeo page in the near future so that the celebrations can continue.
Since opening in June 2000 Greenfield Arts have had over 165 exhibitions in the gallery, 120 live performances, and worked with tens of thousands of young people and the community within projects, the community learning programme and activities. Their free holiday programme has reached over 19,500 young people and families.
Greenfield Arts have developed, managed and created these fantastic opportunities which have helped them to continue to grow as an organisation. This has been supported by brilliant community partners, volunteers and funders. The work of the centre reaches the local community and beyond, through international developments. They have been recognised for their innovation in teaching, learning and creativity across the world. Throughout their 15 years Greenfield Arts have championed the Arts and widely promoted their value.
They have strived to provide the highest quality experiences and collaborated with artists, performers and creative organisations who are renowned in their fields. Together we have inspired. Greenfield Arts: “A place where questions are sown, ideas emerge and confidence grows.”
