Short Description Phil Wilson was born in Middlesbrough, the son of a coal miner, and was brought up in Trimdon Village, County Durham. Other than his political commitments in Parliament, Phil has lived in the Sedgefield Constituency all his life. After schooling in Trimdon and Sedgefield Comprehensive, Phil worked as a civil servant with National Savings in Durham from 1978 to 1987. He then started working for Sedgefield MP Tony Blair, as his researcher based at his Constituency office in Sedgefield, and then worked for the Labour Party from 1994 to 1999. He worked in PR from 1999 through to 2007, and then on July 19, 2007, he was elected Member of Parliament for Sedgefield, succeeding Tony Blair, before winning the Sedgefield seat again in the 2010 general election. His proudest political achievement so far is leading a successful campaign to bring Hitachi Rail Europe’s Intercity Express Programme (IEP) to Newton Aycliffe – marking the biggest overseas investment in the North-East since Nissan came to the region in the 1980s. In his spare time, Phil enjoys reading, writing, jazz and football – he supports Middlesbrough FC and is President of County Durham club Newton Aycliffe, who play in the Northern League.
