Heritage and train fans can enjoy a new walking trail around Darlington town centre bringing the history of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) to life.
The heritage trail, narrated by local historian and author Chris Lloyd, includes places of historical importance in the town centre, along North Road to the Hopetown visitor attraction.
The trail starts at the Friends Meetinghouse on Skinnergate and takes in 17 different train-themed landmarks before finishing at the museum. You can read information on the app about each landmark or listen to the narration by Chris Lloyd.
Download the free Darlington Town Centre Trails app from your app store or find out more at: www.enjoydarlington.co.uk
The launch of the app comes as the town gets ready for two amazing events to celebrate the S&DR centenary. On Saturday 20th September, Ghost Train: The Departure comes to the town centre with a fantastic combination of free performance, music and lights in the afternoon culminating in a spectacular parade to Hopetown in the evening starting at 7.00pm.
On Saturday 27th September, a replica of Locomotion Number 1 will cross the Skerne Bridge in a recreation of the first passenger rail journey in 1825. The journey will be live streamed to a big screen in the Market Square from noon and there will be a host of free, train-themed family entertainment.
