The Social Room & Cafe at the Youth and Community Centre is to take on a new lease of life with effect from Monday 24th February. Staff and volunteers at the Centre have been thinking of an apt name for the new room.
Not only are the management committee excited about this new project, but they also feel a buzz about what is happening generally in Newton Aycliffe. If a new town can be “born again” then the management committee believe this is the way it feels currently.
With this in mind and in honour of Newton Aycliffe founder Lord Beveridge, it has been agreed that the new name for the Cafe, which is open to the public for hot and cold snacks, should be “The Beveridge”.
Vince Crosby Chairman of the management committee said, “We have been holding Brunch Clubs every Wednesday morning where our bacon butties at only £1.50p have been a big hit so we are all excited to launch this next step in the development of the Centre.
Chrissy Askew is Events Co-ordinator in charge of the Cafe. She is a qualified catering trainer and served in the REME T.A. for 15 years as an instructor. Chrissy, originally from Middridge lives in Newton Aycliffe and one of her staff Jayne Latchman, and a Jobseeker, will assist in the kitchen.
The Beveridge will open from 10am – 2pm each day Monday to Friday and will grow as fast as the people of the town want it to, so please get yourself along and help its growth”.
