North East Sports Roma 1 – 1 Newton Aycliffe Youth U9’s

A good game of football on an extremely windy day against a team above us in the league unbeaten in their last 5 games. The conditions made it difficult for the team but they tried their best battling hard against it. Roma were attacking from the whistle however the Eagles kept them at bay for most of the first half with some excellent defending from Ollie and Nathan with Liam having to make some brilliant saves in goal.

Adam, Will and Kai in midfield with Max upfront trying to pass the ball as best they could whilst getting closed down very quickly and battling against the wind. Roma managed to squeeze past our defence and their striker was one on one with Liam and buried the ball in the back of the net, good goal for them and nothing Liam could do about it after making some fantastic saves.

Hamza came on to give Kai a rest and did himself proud finding great space and applying pressure. It was end to end football but we went into half time 1-0 down. Second half saw Ollie take over in goal with Liam taking his place in defence and Hamza upfront for Max with Kai back in midfield. There were some excellent runs by Adam, Kai and Will but they couldn’t get past their defence.

Adam found himself in space and tried to volley the ball into the goal but the wind held it up and it was a comfortable save for their keeper in the end. Hamza also found himself in front of goal and was unlucky not to score. After a couple of tackles on Adam he had to come off injured so Max stepped up and replaced him. Will got the ball and ran down the line with it quickly closed down by Roma’s defence, Hamza then made a crucial tackle and Will picked up the ball and was one on one with the keeper, cool as you like blasting the ball into the goal. Great goal Will, well done. Roma were going for the win and were attacking hard.

Just before the final whistle Ollie made an outstanding save keeping the Eagles from a defeat. Final score 1-1. Today’s man of the match was Will, not only for his goal but for the effort he put in all over the pitch. Will didn’t stop running for the whole match making tackles, taking on players, applying great strength and getting the goal. Well done Will and to all the Eagles today. You kept going even when we were a goal down and it paid off.

Newton Aycliffe U10’s Girls 8 – 0 St. Cuthbert’s.

On Saturday morning the girls travelled to a blustery Peterlee for their first game in 7 weeks to play the final game of the winter league. The girls were asked to carry on where they left off in 2017 and to also take the opposition seriously. The game started scrappy and the strong winds didn’t help for entertaining football either. St Cuthbert’s defended resiliently with all girls behind the ball and looked to catch us on the break.

Luckily Imogen Paterson in goal along with Jasmin & Grace in defence stood firm and stopped any opposition attack in its tracks. Playing into the wind Ebony, Aishia, Fearne & Sophie kept trying to break the opposition defence down but regularly struggled to find a way through. It looked like it was going to be a scoreless first half heading towards half time until a St Cuthbert’s clearance found Fearne well outside the box who struck a shot first time to open the scoring. HT 1 – 0.

Second half saw the introduction of Imogen Milburn & Gracie and a slight reshuffle of positions. The girls were told to continue where they left off and kicking with the wind second half we knew our pace would prove too strong for St Cuthbert’s. Imogen didn’t take long to make her mark on the game scoring within a couple of minutes of coming on. Ebony & Sophie soon got a goal apiece too before Imogen got her 2nd of the game.

Ebony was determined to get her 2nd of the game too only to be denied by the post twice. Aishia then got on the scoresheet before Imogen rounded things off with a further 2 goals. Another excellent team performance!! Our debut season ended with a second place finish in the league and promotion to the Premier Division for the spring cup. Our record was an impressive Played 12, Won 9, Drew 2 and losing only 1 game whilst scoring an impressive 52 goals in the process. All of the girls should be extremely proud of their achievements in such a short space of time!

Newton Aycliffe Youth U11’s Falcons 3 – 2 Boro Rangers Blue

Sunday saw the Falcons play a quality Boro Rangers team in a top of the league clash which did not disappoint. Both team started well and played some nice football. It was the Falcons who took the lead with some great football transitioning from defence to attack, finishing off with some nice passing and a great finish. The players had a good grip on the game and were unlucky to concede the equaliser just before half time.

2nd half the lads went out and took control of the opening spells of the half and we soon found ourselves 3-1 ahead with more great play from our attacking players who gave the opposing defenders problems all game with their pace and strength on the ball.

The game started to get scrappier though in the closing spells and we conceded a second goal but managed to hold on for the vital win. Great win for the lads. Every player should be proud, great attitude, great commitment and some great football. Keep it up lads.
