This week saw some of Newton Aycliffe Youth’s games called off due to the weather conditions. Thankfully some of the fixtures were able to be played either at other venues or on the Sunday. Newton Aycliffe U8’s Eagles  3 -1 Byers Green Merlin’s. Great game which showed lots of determination after the opposing team came out playing long balls straight from the keeper. This worked for them once leaving us 1-0 down at half time. Second half Aycliffe changed tactics a little and this didn’t take long to pay off after Will found himself in a little bit of space to slot home a great goal. 1-1 and with Aycliffe’s heads held high and a few hard tackles taken from Byers Green, Aycliffe’s team pulled together and scored their second goal  through Will, his second of the match. The last 5 minutes saw Adam slot home a fantastic finish and 3-1 was how it finished. Well done Trystan, Edwin, Adam, Will, Jack and Faith. Newton Aycliffe Youth Under 9s 4 – 3 Chester le Street Hoops A good game although Aycliffe didn’t play at their best, but managed to score 4 goals. Moore Swainston was asked to play in goal again as Thomas was not available and he was Man of the Match. Aycliffe went 1-0 up with a well taken goal from Jake Laheney Clark, a second followed from Alex Bellwood who is showing he knows how to finish. Chester battled hard and deservedly got a goal back. 2-1. Half time came and Peter, the Aycliffe manager, asked everyone to up their game as Chester kept looking for an equaliser. Declyn Nelson scored a long range lob over the keeper to put Aycliffe 3-1 up. Chester came back at them 3-2, then after some good play from Tyler Percival and Jake, Alex scored again to make it 4-2. Once again Chester came back and got a third with seconds to go. FInal score 4-3. Barnard Castle 1 -1 U10’s Eagles Another couple of cracking games of football despite losing five players at the last minute to a virus, the lads who turned up put in a good shift. Aycliffe started the game well and created a good chance but Barnard Castle quickly upped their game and started making a lot of chances, but credit to Dan who made some cracking saves: 0-0 at half time. In the second half, Aycliffe started well, playing some nice football ending in a really good team goal scored by Jack. It was an even game after that with chances at both ends, but looked like Aycliffe would hold on for the victory until Barnard Castle popped up and scored the equaliser with practically the last kick of the game. The lads came off the pitch downhearted but the Aycliffe manager told them they could be proud of their performance. Man of the Match – Jack In the development game there was a lots of lads playing in different positions and it was another exciting game with Barnard Castle taking an early lead. Aycliffe battled hard and they equalised, and then went in front. Barnard Castle equalised twice more to finish the game 3-3, Goals from Dan, Noah and Jack. A couple of assists from Joey, and Laughlan was like a rock at the back. Man of the Match – Sam. Newton Aycliffe U10’s Girls 5 – 0 Easington Girls. Saturday morning saw a bright frosty start in Peterlee, for a game against Easington. The girls played well, putting together good passes and working as a team. Easington worked hard in defence and their goalkeeper on excellent form, kept thwarting Aycliffe’s chances. Eventually a breakthrough, and Imogen scores. Heads lifted, and Aycliffe continued to hound the Easington  goal and their efforts were rewarded by another goal from Imogen. Any breaks from Easington were swiftly dealt with by our experienced defenders. A run up the wing and good passing again found Imogen scoring to give her a hat-trick. In the second half, an ever busy Heidi found the net for her goal and later in the half an ever improving Lily poked in a rebound (well watched). The girls grow in confidence every week and always give 100%. A good win!
