On 10th January the Management Committee, Staff and Volunteers of the Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre got together at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex for an ‘away day’.
They took part in various workshops looking at the positives and negatives of the Centre. The aim was to clarify and unify our collective vision for the Centre – what it did, why it was essential for Newton Aycliffe and where we wanted it to go in the future.
To do this the group worked through the SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) which produced lists of ‘grumps’ and good ideas. These lists were then collated to give a working list of problems and their solutions.
The day finished with a ‘PESTLE’ analysis, establishing context and looking into the future; this last exercise, given the current climate, was necessarily worrying, but through highlighting the areas of concern the group agreed there are also many reasons to look to the future with confidence.
The large number who attended helped highlight the skills that staff and trustees hold, the determination and passion all involved have to help drive the organisation forward to become a high-quality provider.
The group thanks the Oak Leaf staff for providing an excellent lunch for a reasonable price and extended a big thank you to the Great Aycliffe Group of County Councillors who funded the event, and to Carl Marshall who led it waht was a very promising, useful day.
If anybody would like to have their say regarding the Centre and how they can best serve the Aycliffe Youth and Community please feel free to email: info@nayc.co.uk or pop in and put your comments into the suggestion box.
