Newton Aycliffe Youth & Community Centre have recently employed a Centre Manager, Rebecca Metcalfe and she took up the role on Monday 4th April 2016.
Rebecca’s role will be to manage the Centre and everything will now go through Beki (as she is affectionately known).
Vince Crosby, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said, “things needed to change as we move towards Asset Transfer from Durham County Council and the aim was to create the position of Centre Manager. The process was not taken lightly and the board paid for an external consultant to conduct a full staff review. It was not an option to stay the same with DCC having to shed £1m from the youth service and this is not negotiable”.
The full impact of these cuts is not yet known but our aim is to keep the youth service operating as normally as is possible, and it was for that reason we had to carry out the staffing review and make some members of staff redundant. Those members of staff that we have had to lose were valued members of staff, and the whole process of redundancy has been quite emotional. Again we engaged our HR qualified Trustee to see that the Centre adhered to set guidelines through the process. We will miss the people we have lost and wish them luck and good fortune in their next endeavours.
It was also important that we got the right person for the job and to that end the services of a trustee who is qualified, and works in HR, along with two external managers including the Manager of Tesco, to whom we are extremely grateful.
The Board of Trustees has also been reduced and the new trustees have been voted on by a democratic vote. It is recognised that the board needed to become more professional, hence the need to reduce our membership base and make changes.
