Sedgefield hosted an Under 15 tournament at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre and fielded a young team. In their first game they played local team Durham City and were 8-0 up at half time and the final score was 10-4. In their second game Sedgefield ran out comfortable winners over York 8-1. In their third game they were up against North West team Lancaster and were easy 10-2 winners.
In their final game they were up against the other unbeaten team Yorkshire Champions Rotherham. Rotherham were older and much bigger and led Sedgefield 3-1 at half time. The Sedgefield coaches at half time asked the team to up the tempo significantly and they responded magnificently by destroying Rotherham in the second half 7-1 with the tremendous pace of their counter attacks to win 8-4.
Niall Coulthard 10 was the player of the tournament for Sedgefield competing tigerishly with much bigger and older opponents. Ben Stephenson and Michael Hampshire 11 were the leading scorers for Sedgefield. Connor Keeble 13 marked Rotherham’s big danger man out of the game in the final. Michael Cousins 13 and Kris Egginton 13 both scored important goals and were instrumental in the creation of others.
Richard Murray continues to show his potential in goal with some fine saves. The other members of the Sedgefield team were Jessica Webb 10, Poppy Stephenson 10, Haydn Craggs 11, Hollie Turnbull 11, Jake Mendelson 11, Daniel Millington 11 and Kate Harrison 12.
