Did you hear about the Johnstone twins? As alike as two new pins. Willy Russell’s 1983 musical, “Blood Brothers” is to be staged next week at the Civic Hall, Shildon by The Tearaways Youth Theatre Group.

Blood Brothers tells the story of Mickey and Edward, twins separated at birth who at the age of 7, reunite, become friends, unaware of their relation to each other, or the dire consequences their relationship will bring about later in their lives.

The hit songs from the show are ‘Tell Me It’s Not True’ and ‘Marilyn Monroe’. A spokesperson said “A lot of pupils are studying Blood Brothers for their exams presently at school. The Tearaways are presenting their musical adaptation of this well loved musical on Thursday 27th, Friday 28th, Saturday 29th, June at 7.30pm.  A final performance is on  Sunday 30th June at 2pm.

Amongst the cast and crew are local youngsters Charlotte McAdam who plays Linda.  Blake Reed as young  Sammy, and Katie Baldwin plays the older criminal  Sammy. Jordan Sandford is the well-to-do Mrs. Lyons and  Abbie Griffiths, Jade Townsley, Charlotte Lord, Gaynor Lambert, Howard Affleck, Nataly Wood and Sarah Donnelly all provide the musical side to the production.

As always the whole production is under the watchful eye of Stage Manager Andrew Timmiss.
