Year 9 Geographers at Woodham Academy undertook a local field visit during their Geography lessons last week. They walked along Woodham Burn visiting various residential areas. The primary purpose was to assess and sample the urban environment. The secondary purpose was to enable students to see how green Newton Aycliffe is! The students sampled a number of sites assessing litter, noise, air and visual pollution. Overall the areas we sampled looked very good and were assessed as so by the students. Traffic and pedestrian counts were also carried out. Unfortunately, for data purposes the areas we sampled were very quiet,  apart from Burn Lane which, not unsurprisingly, had high volumes of noise and pedestrians.
Students have returned to school to write up the data as a practice task for the Controlled Assessment element of GCSE to be completed in Year 11.
