In October, Year 5 and 6 from Aycliffe Village School went on a bike ride around The Great Aycliffe Way. The ride was led by Rio who works for Wheel Education and helps us keep fit and healthy on our bikes. Mrs Vest and Mr Gargan our teachers came with us. At round about 12:30pm we walked onto the yard with our high visibility jackets and we rode our bikes into the middle of the yard to get some practice. When Rio said,” Let me put you all into groups with an adult,” this was the signal for each group to begin their journey. We rode through Little Lane then along-side the A167. We cycled on a woodland path and soon after arrived at the Blue Bridge. Afterward, we approached a conker tree,
conkers were lying on the leaves. We collected them up and headed towards Rio’s favourite place to play games. One of the games involved picking up leaves from the ground and throwing them in the air while Rio took a picture whcih looked like we were on fire. We rode back through the rain and when we got back, we realised that we’d had an amazing time. Scarlett Liddle said, “I loved it – especially when it began to rain!” Laura Flinders was in the leading group with Rio and thought that being a leader was brilliant. We would like to thank Rio, Mr Thompson and all of the parents and teachers who made the event so successful. By Mollie, Scarlett and Grace (Year 5)
