An organisation, launched this year – which engages local children in physical activity using non-traditional methods such as ‘Spy school’, Dance and Martial Arts has already taken on coaches from the Aycliffe area and is on the look-out for more as it plans to start local clubs in the New Year.
Marina Antoniou, who launched Sports Xtra North East in September is keen to tackle child obesity and inactivity by involving them in unique classes in Primary Schools and Nurseries and provide opportunities for local sports graduates and professionals.
Marina an Army Physical Training Corps Instructor and former member of the GB Bobsleigh Training Team –  said, “I know how difficult it can be during the early stages of a career in Physical Activity and I am passionate about creating opportunities for local sports coaches.  Not only will they gain experience and benefit as Sports Xtra North East grows, but the work they will be doing – helping children develop confidence by giving them the opportunity to find an activity they love – is extremely varied and rewarding.”
Sports Xtra North East will be running ‘Sports Xperience’ courses at Longfield Sports Complex, Darlington and Spy School at Egglescliffe CofE Primary School on December 23rd 2013, runs sessions in schools and nurseries throughout the year, as well as Saturday Futsal Clubs for three to seven year olds.  Readers who are interested in a career in sports coaching, or parents, schools and nurseries wishing to book children onto a course can contact Marina on 07549 162261  or visit www.sports-xtra.com
