On Friday 21st March, St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School was buzzing with excitement as the school celebrated World Poetry Day.
The highlight of the day was a visit from poet, Andy Tooze, who brought the magic of poetry to life for the children and staff alike. Across the day, Andy led interactive sessions with the children, guiding them through the creative process and inspiring them to use their imagination in writing. In addition to reading some of his own poems, Andy had the children actively involved in creating their own short poems on the theme of nature.
Andy’s sessions were filled with energy, humour and passion for poetry. He encouraged the children to think beyond the traditional rules of writing and to experiment with language, rhythm and rhyme. His ability to connect with the children, using simple and fun examples, allowed them to see poetry not as something to be studied, but as a fun and exciting way to express themselves.
The day concluded with a wonderful celebration of the children’s work. Eager volunteers, from each class, shared their poems with the whole school. The courage and creativity displayed by the children was remarkable.
The celebration of World Poetry Day at St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School was a resounding success. It brought the school community together, sparked creativity and instilled in the children an appreciation for poetry. Thanks to Andy Tooze’s inspiring visit, the children not only had a fun day, but also walked away with a renewed sense of the power of words and the beauty of poetry.
