Horndale Residents Asso-ciation have joined the Evangelical Church based in Ladybower and our local Policing Team to help the work of Durham Food Bank.

The Food Bank based at St Clare’s Church gives out food parcels to those in need. At the April Residents meeting, it was agreed working together was a worthwhile project.

The Bank needs donations of food and toiletries which can dropped off at St Clare’s on a Wednesday and Friday between 1.30pm -3pm or at the Evangelical Church at our monthly meetings or at their Thursday morning coffee morning 10am-12pm. Items can also be dropped off at the front desk of the Police Office.

The Food Bank are looking for more volunteers to ease the workload from the team. It will be a few hours a month and if you think you can help call in to St Clare’s where you will be met by a group of lovely people. Parcels are given to people who have been sent by a doctor, nurse, cab, social workers or other professionals. They don’t judge or ask questions which makes a very relaxed atmosphere.

The Food Bank needs dried and tinned fruit, meat and fish, also tea, coffee, dried uht milk, sugar, jam, biscuits, cereal, anything that be can be stored without the need of a refrigerator.

It doesn’t need to major brands it would be better to buy several own brands which will go further. Please think about this project as we don’t know when we might need their help.
