Woodham Burn Primary School are bringing boxing session for the children in partnership with Sedgefield School Sports Partnership (SSP). There are many benefits of this physical sport for children including:

Exercise – Boxing is a very physically demanding sport. It requires the person participating to have both strength and stamina.

Self Defence – allowing children to be able to defend themselves if they ever need to. This can be an extremely valuable tool for children to learn because the world can be very dangerous.

Stress Relief – It can be used as a form of aggression control. Children have to deal with a lot of emotions throughout their lifetime. Boxing will give them a release and allow them to let out their stress in a positive way.

Discipline – By teaching boxing mechanics will enable children to effectively be in control and be disciplined.

Strength – Boxing can help increase overall strength. This can lead to increased bone growth, increased weight loss, and overall healthier being. The more muscles and strength the children have, the healthier they will be.

Hobby – By giving them a hobby that encourages being active and physical, the children will ultimately reduce the amount of time they have to participate in the hobbies that could cause them to be unhealthy.

Mrs Edwards, Head Teacher said “Boxing is an excellent vehicle for teaching children about self-control and how to feel better about themselves”

Miss Roberts, PE Lead said “boxing has given girls the opportunity to try the sport as well as boys, it is a sport they have never tried before and to see the enthusiasm on their faces and the realisation that they believed in themselves is wonderful to observe”
